quiet disappointment
Just finished reading an article, "8 Reasons Why Men Watch Porn". Tried to comment on it, but my comment didn't go through. I've noticed the moderator only supports the comments from men. Read another blog called "The Rules Revised". Similar thing. Both blogs talk about gender and why certain things are natural to men and, in the latter one, how women can adjust.
While it's great to see the "rules" so clearly printed, what I'm wondering is, what if those "rules" don't work for certain people. Or more appropriately, what if they don't work for a LOT of people. Say, 90% of the women who visit and comment on both sites?
It disturbs me, more than the actual messages, that the women commenters are so thoroughly ignored by the moderators, and that both moderators turn a blind eye to when the women are directly put down by the male posters.
The impression that I get from both blogs is that men are simple beings who know exactly what they want and are fairly consistent in those wants - therefore, the "reasonable" half of the couple. Women, on the other hand, have too many wants to keep up with, are high maintenance, and just don't understand how the game works - hence, the "unreasonable" half of the couple.
I find this to be extremely dismissive in two ways: one, in terms of what the women say they actually want, and two, in terms of women's voices. By ignoring the women, they are silencing them.
What I would have said to both blogs:
Word of advice. Change your views on a woman's sex drive. The women with high ones are called nasty names, so then they suppress them and hide them, since we're "supposed to" have lower drives than men. Lose-lose. Celebrate women's sex drives, see a woman's sexuality more positively = we'll all get laid more.
Common sense, really.
The sad thing is, failure to listen to each other doesn't mean only one side loses. It means long term, we all lose. "We must learn to live together as brothers (or family), or perish together as fools." ~MLK Jr.
