1 May 2007

Today is Tuesday, the first day of the full moon, the first day of my moontime. Today, the rice sprouted early in the morning, and I ate raw qi for breakfast and lunch. Today the energy of my body pulls downward, away from my head, towards my sacro illiacs. Today, many people have marched the streets, calling out for justice for the migrants from the immigration patrol - la migra. A year ago, one of the greatest strikes occurred in our generation's history. One year ago, I spoke precious words to a very special person - precious words to a precious person, who remains in my thoughts - words that remain alive from long ago. Today, the chiropractor adjusted one side, only to unintentionally cause pain to the other. Today my migraines are held at bay by my determination and dedication not to let them get me down. Today, the UCSC Aikido dojo was packed full of students, and today that dojo was led by a gentle, loving, and disciplined sensei from Watsonville, where the majority of the protests around here took place.

Today is May Day.

Tomorrow, I may cut my hair off. Tomorrow after tomorrow, the rice may have sprouted yet once more. The future lies ahead of us, blank, open, unimpressioned. Yet it is the past we reach for.

All my love for today,
